Rankings Update
Well, look at that: We’re a top-ten team again. According to the writers, at least. The coaches have us at #15. The bad news is that I’m not convinced we really are a top-ten team at this point. The good news is that the 9-2 nonconference mark (with the Kansas game pending) is good enough that we can legitimately finish the regular season as a top-ten team, if we really prove to be one during conference play.
Sagarin has us in the top 25 again. Kenpom is really holding the blowout losses to UNC and Maryland against us; we’re at #44 there. The RPI (which I haven’t looked at to date, on account of it being even more goofy than the other numbers-based rankings early in the season) has us at #28. That’s a decent position from which to move up during conference play and not have our RPI ranking held against us if our overall record justifies a high NCAA seed.
