Better Knowing Me
Posted by kj on Thursday, November 13th, 2008
Patrick Hayes of It’s Just Sports, a Flint Journal blog, asked if I’d be willing to do an interview about the origins of the Spartans Weblog and the upcoming MSU basketball season as part of his blog’s “Better Know a Blogger” series. Being thrilled whenever anyone other than my mom is interested in what I have to say, I immediately agreed to answer his questions.
You can read the interview here.
Thursday Links
- Survey says: A majority of Division 1 teams will feature 3-guard lineups this season, Is Lucas/Walton/Allen/Morgan/Suton a three-guard lineup?
- Fox Sports’ Jeff Goodman projects MSU to upset North Carolina (in a Ford Field rematch) for the national championship. No! All basketball writers must pick UNC to maximize jinx level.
- College Basketball Chronotope one-ups (actually, two-ups) most preseason prognosticators by projecting both the NIT and CBI fields. Illinois and Minnesota to former; Penn State to latter.

I don’t know about the “predictions” at the end though. I think you should have stopped at the “I don’t like making predictions” line, and perhaps just offer the Lucas for player of the year thing… I think the banner thing may have gone overboard with your “fan” qualities overpowering the “statistician” in you…

When I found Big Ten Wonk for the first time… it was like what I imagine John Forbes Nash must’ve felt like when he started looking at the Soviet messages in magazines. I was a little disappointed when he went Prospectus on us, but I will say that immediately after the Wonk left, the Big Ten blogs starting up got really good – yours included.
And thanks for the shout-out. Although I should clarify that I think Purdue will probably win as many or more Big Ten regular conference games than your Sparties, although I think MSU’s a *really* good bet for the conference tourney title, and it’s way more likely that your green gang gets to Final Four than the Boilers.
But obviously, I like making predictions, and I don’t mind being (inevitably) wrong. Being a college basketball fan is fun, and I would guess it’s a little more fun than being a strictly one-team partisan.
(perhaps especially for me, this year)
