Scoring from the charity stripe during the Izzo era
kj on Aug 20th 2008
Back in March, when Witless Chum and Hubert suggested I spend some of the offseason looking at MSU’s historical tempo-free statistical trends, it seemed like a great idea. Since then, though, I’ve realized:
(1) It’s a lot of work compared to other kids of blog posts.
and
(2) It doesn’t seem to generate a lot of discussion.
I will [...]
The Big Ten Network has landed
kj on Aug 20th 2008
AKA “More news reported in an untimely fashion due to your blogger’s long weekend at the beach”
As of last Friday, The Big Ten Network is now available to be viewed by us loyal lazy Comcast subscribers. I finally got around to surfing up my selection of channels to watch some BTN programming last night. And [...]

Tickets for the MSU-UNC game at Ford Field will go on sale to the public next Tuesday (August 26) at 10:00 a.m. The game is scheduled for 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 3, as part of the Big Ten-ACC Challenge.

Coffee Talk: The MSU basketball recruiting outlook
kj on Aug 14th 2008
As regular readers have no doubt deduced, I don’t know much about recruiting (sing this to the tune of “Don’t Know Much About History” by Herman’s Hermits). ESPN.com: “NCAA says it can’t avoid beer, fantasy sports”*
kj on Aug 13th 2008
Funny, that’s exactly how I feel!
*Technical note: I removed the word “ads” after “beer” in the headline to make the joke funnier. See, even when I try my hand at a tongue-in-cheek blog post, I have to provide a technical note. This is why I mostly stick to very nonhumorous statistical graphs.
Serious commentary: The article [...]
MSU historical trends: Field goal shooting
kj on Aug 12th 2008
I’m finally picking back up on our series on Michigan State’s statistical trends over the last 12 years. I’m going to try to make these a little simpler going forward, so that the prospects of doing each post aren’t so daunting (and hence procrastination-inducing).
Today we’ll look at MSU’s field goal shooting percentages. (The last entry [...]
Give the guys in Bristol some credit
kj on Aug 10th 2008
In the midst of ESPN.com’s non-step preseason college football coverage (led by their new Big Ten blogger, Adam Rittenberg), they’ve found the time to compile a quality preseason round-up for the 2008-09 Big Ten basketball season. Highlights:
Michigan State is picked to finish second behind Purdue.
MSU has the second highest returning scorer in the conference (Morgan) [...]
